Funders are also in the business making money (or a profit) and they make it through interest (and fees) charged on the money lent. Funders use bank statements to assess affordability and ability of the business to repay the loan (including the interest). Through the bank statement a funder is able to pick up which obligation(s) is the business already committed to i.e. where is the money made going to and how much can be regarded as excess. A bank statement is also important in determining whether an entrepreneur is not misusing company funds and financing their own lifestyle (purchasing personal items). Misusing company funds will result in funders declining to fund the business.

If you cannot be trusted with the little you have, how can funders trust that you will be able to pay them?
